Welcome to Homecoming East Lothian

Join us in 2009 when Scotland will host its first ever Homecoming year which has been created and timed to mark the 250th anniversary of Scotland's national poet, the international cultural icon, Robert Burns. From Burns Night on 25th January to St Andrew's Day on 30th November, a country-wide programme of exciting events and activities will celebrate some of Scotland's great contributions to the world: Robert Burns, Whisky, Golf, Great Scottish Minds & Innovations and Scotland's Rich Culture, Heritage, and Ancestry which lives on at home and through our global family. So, whether you're a Scot, of Scottish descent, or simply love Scotland, you're invited!

Where is East Lothian?

East Lothian is located in the South East of Scotland, neighbouring the capital city of Edinburgh. The award-winning coastline stretches along the southern edge of the Firth of Forth to the boundaries of the Scottish Borders. East Lothian is often referred to as Edinburgh's playground due to its close proximity to the city.

Here in East Lothian we are planning an exciting series of events celebrating heritage, culture and the many great contributions Scotland has given to the world.

2009 will be a special year so, whether you live in Scotland, are part of our extended global family, or maybe you just love Scotland, come to East Lothian and join the celebrations in 2009!

Centred around John Muir's Birthplace in Dunbar and the Scottish Seabird Centre in North Berwick, will be the John Muir Odyssey, a festival celebrating the life and legacy of John Muir, "the Father of Modern Conservation".
